Employment
Bright Spots in Brooklyn and
Queens
The
New York City economy and employment situation continues to
present challenges to a great many New Yorkers in the aftermath
of September 11th. The unemployed are seeking out gainful
employment through traditional routes such as newspaper want
ads, Internet posting, Labor Department listings and contact
networking. Others have tapped into a growing resource for
employment in the New York Metro Area - Catholic Charities
Employment Services.
With
seven programs offering employment services, Catholic Charities
of Brooklyn and Queens is emerging as a beacon for unemployed
workers and is a considerable force in the realm of employment
services. Catholic Charities works with targeted segments
of the population: including displaced workers, youth, individuals
recovering from alcohol and drug addiction, senior citizens,
homeless on the rebound, refugees settling in New York City,
and the mentally ill.
Our
program employment specialists have served thousands in the
Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. They assist job seekers with
resumes, community internships, effective communication through
mock interviews, and career dressing. Our programs seek
to create in the job seeker confidence in existing skills
and talents. Job seekers have access to the full network
of Catholic Charities services, thereby supporting them in
their quest for self-sufficiency.
Our
team develops, nurtures and maintains relationships with neighborhood
and regional employers, to create job opportunities.
To date, we have found gainful employment for 2500+ people
in our communities.
